Alpaca Launches Just-in-Time Funding for Instant Access to Purchase US Stocks Globally

Since the launch of Alpaca Broker API, we have worked with more than 170  partners. A major pain point for their customers centers around the delay in trading due to longer settlement of funds into Alpaca’s custody.

We are excited to announce Just-in-Time (JIT) funding for stock trading, which will help deliver instant access to purchase US stocks. This  funding model provides you and your customers more flexibility since trades can be executed before deposits are settled in the Alpaca account. You are responsible for sending the amount due to Alpaca by the settlement date. JIT also helps  enable the creation of a single wallet experience, and greater cash management flexibility.

Streamline Cash Flow with Just-In-Time Funding for Broker API

Increased Cash Management Flexibility

The JIT funding model, also known as post-trade settlement, allows you to deposit cash after trade execution. This helps offer you greater  flexibility to manage and allocate your funds for other business obligations or requirements.

When a partner is JIT enabled, Alpaca’s back-end system calculates the difference between inflow and outflow account activity and assesses a single wire amount. Inflows typically consist of executed buy trades, while outflows to the partner are made up of executed sell trades and dividend payments. Should the inflows exceed the outflows across your account base, you will be responsible for sending the funds to Alpaca in time for settlement.

Single Wallet Experience for your Customers

Just-in-Time funding offers a great customer experience by allowing accounts to have a single view of all assets and cash holdings.  This will enable your customers to be aware that they can move capital between the different offerings immediately, along with having fast access to buying power. For instance, a customer might deposit $1,000 USD into their account and can instantly trade any allocation of asset classes made available to them.

Improve Reconciliation Process

Reconciliation is an important financial reporting process required by regulators, to verify that figures are factual, consistent, and complete. With JIT, you are responsible for paying the exact amount needed to settle trade executions, while Alpaca manages the allocation of funds to settle individual account balances

Key Features of JIT Funding
