Rest Capital (Rest), a UK treasury platform for businesses, today announced the launch of money market funds (MMFs), giving UK businesses a way to invest eligible surplus cash in government MMFs. The launch is powered by Alpaca, an agent-first brokerage infrastructure, and its recently acquired platform, WealthKernel.
Founded in 2025, Rest was designed to close a gap in how smaller companies manage cash. “Many businesses have meaningful amounts of cash, but nobody actively manages it,” said Joe Kemsley, Founder of Rest. “Large companies have dedicated teams, systems, and partners. For everyone else, there often isn’t a treasury function at all. We built Rest to change that and bring cash management use cases to businesses without a dedicated treasury function.”
This launch extends Rest’s platform into the investment layer, enabling businesses to connect their existing bank accounts, set rules for how much cash they wish to keep available, and sweep eligible surplus cash into government MMFs. This allows businesses to put cash to work while continuing to use their existing connected bank accounts and managing eligible investments through Rest’s platform.”.
Rest attributes the timing of this launch to major market shifts. “Three things have changed. First, open banking has finally matured, with variable recurring payments available and a reliable ecosystem of partners around them. Second, trusting a new institution to hold your cash has been normalized by the digital banks that came before us, and we would not be launching this without those trailblazers,” added Kemsley. “And lastly, until recently, the technology to run a treasurer as software simply wasn't there. That has changed and it's why we could build this now."
Powered by Alpaca’s brokerage infrastructure, Rest can offer its business customers access to MMFs that invest primarily in government or government-backed debt instruments within its own product experience, while retaining ownership of the treasury workflow and the customer relationship.
For Rest, API-first infrastructure was a key factor in bringing the product to market. “Alpaca’s API-first infrastructure gives us streamlined access to MMFs and has been very easy to integrate. Rather than building the brokerage and investment infrastructure from the ground up, we can use Alpaca’s existing infrastructure and technical support to build institutional-grade products,” said Kemsley.
“Rest is tackling an important challenge for UK businesses by making treasury management more accessible,” said Karan Shanmugarajah, CEO of Alpaca Europe. “We are proud to support them as they open access to financial infrastructure that has historically sat with larger institutions.”
“Our infrastructure is engineered so partners can expand without rebuilding their foundation. Rest is providing treasury management access to a wider range of businesses, and we’re proud to be their infrastructure partner,” said Yoshi Yokokawa, Co-Founder and CEO of Alpaca.
MMFs are the starting point for Rest’s broader ambition to build a full-stack treasurer for every business. As Rest expands its treasury platform, they plan to support more treasury decisions through a single automated experience, helping businesses manage additional treasury functions over time.
