trii Launches US Stock Trading in Colombia, Expanding Global Investment Access with Alpaca

trii, a leading investing app in Latin America, recently announced the launch of US stock trading in Colombia, introducing a mobile-first solution that helps empower Colombian retail investors to access global markets with simplicity and speed. The launch is powered by Alpaca, a global leader in agent-first brokerage infrastructure.

Retail investing in Latin America has been complex and expensive for much of the population.1 Other barriers in the region include a lack of financial education, limited access to technological tools and infrastructure, and a shortage of solutions tailored to their needs.1 This is even more pronounced in Colombia, where fewer than 2% of the population participates in the stock market.1,2

Despite these barriers, demand for US markets is growing, as Colombian portfolio holdings of US equities have almost tripled over the last five years, rising from $14B in 2020 to $38B as of June 2025.3,4

Through its partnership with Alpaca, trii is addressing these gaps by bringing fractional trading of US stocks to its regulated, mobile platform, with low fees and integrated financial education. For potentially millions of Colombian investors, the launch creates a more accessible way to diversify across geographies, currencies, and market environments beyond the local economy.

“trii makes it simple for people to invest,” said Diego Torres, CEO of trii. “From one app, Colombians can access local and global stocks, understand what they’re buying, and make decisions with clarity and confidence. The new product responds to the needs of our investors, empowering them with access to fractional shares and ETFs, deeper liquidity, and a broader universe of companies and businesses they know and use every day.”

“Alpaca’s API-first infrastructure uniquely aligns with how we build products at trii,” added Torres. “This gives us the flexibility to integrate US trading into our app without friction, while preserving the intuitive experience our users expect. ”

This launch follows trii’s recent expansion into Chile, marking a significant step in the company’s broader strategy to become the retail brokerage of choice across Latin America.

"We’re excited to support trii as it expands access to US equities for retail investors in Colombia," said Yoshi Yokokawa, Co-Founder and CEO of Alpaca. “Alpaca’s brokerage infrastructure enables partners like trii to navigate market complexity and deliver simple, affordable investing experiences at scale across Latin America. We’re proud to support trii’s work to make  investing more accessible for Colombians."
