Alpaca Launches German Equities Trading via Deutsche Börse Xetra for Broker Partners

Alpaca’s broker partners can now offer access to German equities through the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, one of the world’s leading trading venues

We’re excited to announce that access to German equities through Deutsche Börse Xetra, the primary electronic trading platform of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, is now available to our broker partners via Alpaca's Broker API. With the launch, our current and prospective partners can expand their product offerings into German equities, one of the largest equity markets in mainland Europe, giving users access to a broader selection of internationally recognized companies such as BMW, Deutsche Bank, and Adidas.

The launch also marks the beginning of our broader global equities initiative. In the coming months, we plan to expand access to additional major international exchanges, including the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, London Stock Exchange, Saudi Exchange, Euronext Paris, and Korea Exchange, with additional exchanges coming soon.

Expanding Access to German Equities: What Brokers Should Know

Germany is the largest economy in Europe and third in the world behind only the United States and China. According to a report from SIFMA, the global equity market outside the US represents approximately $80-90 trillion in market capitalization.¹ Of that, the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, including Deutsche Börse’s electronic trading platform Xetra, ranks among one of the largest in Europe and a top exchange globally.

The market depth and execution capabilities of Deutsche Börse Xetra made it a natural starting point for our broader global equities expansion.

“As the leading European exchange for German equities and the market leader in ETFs and ETPs, Deutsche Börse Xetra is thrilled to be the first European exchange in Alpaca’s broader global equities initiative, providing its growing global ecosystem with deep liquidity and best execution,” said Michael Krogmann, Head of Cash Market Business Development at Deutsche Börse.

The launch of German equities gives you and your users access to a selection of companies, including SAP, Siemens, Allianz, BMW, Deutsche Bank, Adidas, and Bayer, across industries like advanced manufacturing, semiconductors, pharmaceuticals, and renewable energy. These are sectors that may not be widely represented in portfolios focused primarily on US securities.

Germany is Europe's largest economy and home to companies operating across industries, including manufacturing, healthcare, technology, and financial services. Access to German-listed securities allows broker partners to broaden the range of investment products available to their users.

By integrating access to Deutsche Börse Xetra, we provide you with:

  • Direct access to one of the largest equity markets in Europe
  • Access to hundreds of stocks currently, with access to one of Europe’s most developed ETF ecosystems
  • Deep liquidity and high transparency in trade execution

The Benefits of Integrating German Equities with Alpaca's Broker API

Opening financial services for everyone on the planet means ensuring financial innovation isn’t limited by geographical borders. With the launch of German Equities, here are some of the benefits you may have from integrating with Alpaca:

Diversified Offering

You can provide access to equities listed and traded on Deutsche Börse Xetra, alongside existing US equities, options, ETFs, fixed income, and crypto offerings. Additionally, we intend to support tokenized German equities by building on the same brokerage infrastructure that supports tokenized equity offerings today.

Multi-Currency Trading

Trade German equities and settle in EUR. Our multi-currency ledger supports trading and position management in various listing currencies for both you and your users.

Market Hours Advantage

German equities trade during European market hours, giving you the ability to offer wider trading coverage when combined with US equities. This complements existing 24/5 US stock trading capabilities and may help support users across different time zones

Increased User Engagement

Offering access to German equities may help broaden the range of investment products available to your users.

Developer and AI-First Integration Experience

German stocks are accessible through the same endpoints that already support US equities, options, ETFs, fixed income, and crypto. Corporate actions, market data, and trading hours are surfaced through our existing infrastructure. Additionally, German equities documentation and integration workflows have been added to our Sandbox and Live MCP Servers for Broker API. You can continue using the same API architecture and integration workflows and API-first approach you already rely on for US equities while getting up and running with minimal development overhead.

“Investors increasingly expect access beyond US markets,” said Yoshi Yokokawa, Co-Founder and CEO of Alpaca. “Germany is a natural starting point for our global equities expansion, with companies that anchor Europe’s largest economy and play important roles across industries like technology, manufacturing, financial services, and healthcare. By launching German equities through Deutsche Börse Xetra, we’re helping our partners offer more globally connected investing experiences through Alpaca’s API-first brokerage infrastructure.”

The Road Ahead: Expanding Access to Global Markets

Our expansion into global stocks is key to our mission of opening financial services to everyone on the planet. As our global partner ecosystem has grown to the hundreds, the demand for a truly international investment suite has also increased.

We plan to expand access to additional international exchanges, including the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, London Stock Exchange, Saudi Stock Exchange, Euronext Paris, and Korea Exchange in the coming months. We also intend to support Abu Dhabi Exchange, the Dubai Financial Market, the Tokyo Stock Exchange, and other Euronext exchanges over time.

Together, these expansions reflect our commitment to helping financial institutions, fintechs, digital asset and on-chain financial platforms, and embedded investing platforms build more globally connected investing experiences through a single API-first brokerage infrastructure.
