Alpaca Launches MCP Servers in Public Beta for Broker Partners.

We’re excited to announce we’ve launched two MCP Servers for broker partners in public beta, enabling partners to interact with our Sandbox and Production documentation, workflows, and operational capabilities through natural language while helping you to integrate more quickly. Currently access is limited to only approved partner super users.

These MCP Servers connect AI assistants directly to Alpaca’s Broker API, helping engineering, operations, and support teams understand integrations, investigate operational workflows, and retrieve implementation guidance through a single interface.

The Sandbox MCP Server has read and write operations, supporting testing and setup of workflows before deployment, including account opening, funding, transfers, trading, watchlists, documents, options, rebalancing, journals, instant funding, IPOs, and other supported Broker API workflows.

The Production MCP Server has read-only operations documented for account lookup, account status/profile details, trading account state, buying power and cash, positions, portfolio history, activities, transfers, and other operational data.

Built with Safety in Mind

Alpaca’s MCP Servers for Broker API were designed with a safety-first approach. OAuth-based authorization provides a secure way to connect AI assistants to Broker API while helping protect access to brokerage infrastructure.

During the initial release, the Sandbox MCP server supports read-only, full access, and custom access. Teams can select the specific permissions they want to grant, giving AI assistants only the level of access needed to complete their tasks safely.

Alternatively, the Production MCP Server supports read-only operations by design, allowing teams to explore and interact with live Broker API data while write operations remain restricted. This helps partners investigate operational workflows with confidence while helping protect production environments.

Benefits of Alpaca’s MCP Servers for Broker API

Our MCP Servers for Broker API are designed to help partners build, operate, and support Broker API integrations more efficiently.

Faster Integration

Reduce the time spent finding endpoints, understanding required request fields, and navigating Broker API documentation. Discover the necessary endpoints and integrate quickly.

Documentation-Grounded Responses

Retrieve answers based on Alpaca’s documentation and schemas, helping reduce invalid payloads, incorrect endpoint usage, and implementation errors.

Automatically Updated and Synced

The MCP servers are automatically aligned with Alpaca’s public Broker API documentation and OpenAPI specifications, ensuring up-to-date quality and accurate outputs across product updates and API changes.

Natural Language Access

Interact with Broker API in your preferred language while accessing information that is automatically synced with Alpaca’s documentation and schemas.

Managed Access

Connect through OAuth-based authorization without sharing API keys in chat, giving you a managed way to approve and revoke access.

Use Cases of Alpaca’s MCP Servers for Broker API

Alpaca’s MCP Servers are available in both Sandbox and Production environments, enabling teams to test supported workflows before working with live operational data.

  • Endpoint Discovery: Search Broker API operations, inspect required parameters, and identify the appropriate endpoint through built-in discovery.
    • Example Prompt: “Show me the endpoint and required fields to create an account."
  • Documentation Lookup: Retrieve implementation guidance using Alpaca’s documentation, API reference, request shapes, response fields, and sample usage.
    • Example Prompt: "Show me the minimal curl for creating a sandbox account, based on the docs."
  • Operational Support: Review account information, trading account state, buying power, positions, transfers, and activities to help investigate customer issues and support operational workflows.
    • Example Prompt: “Find the account for [email protected] and summarize its status, buying power, positions, and recent activity."
  • Sandbox MCP Server: Explore and test Broker API workflows, including account opening, funding, transfers, trading, watchlists, documents, options, rebalancing, journals, instant funding, and IPOs before deploying to production.
    • Example Prompt: "Create a sandbox account that lands in an action-required KYC state for a demo."

New Broker API Skills

Alongside our MCP Servers for Broker API, we’ve also expanded the AI resources available to you through our new Broker API Skills repository. These reusable, open-source skills help AI assistants perform common Broker API workflows while giving development teams implementation guidance for common integration scenarios.

Together, Alpaca’s hosted MCP Servers and Broker API Skills are designed to help reduce integration time, improve developer productivity, and accelerate support workflows through reusable implementation guidance for common Broker API workflows.

What’s Next

Alpaca’s MCP Servers for Broker API are one step in our broader investment in agent-first brokerage infrastructure. As development workflows continue to evolve, we’re expanding the MCP Server, APIs, and developer resources that help partners build and operate financial services with Alpaca. Partner feedback will continue to shape future capabilities and workflows as we expand the platform.

“As partners build more sophisticated brokerage products, their teams need faster ways to understand, integrate, and operate Broker API workflows. Alpaca’s MCP Server for Broker API is designed to make that infrastructure easier to work with through natural language while keeping Broker API as the reliable action layer for developers, applications, and AI agents.” Hitoshi Harada, Co-Founder, CPO & CTO at Alpaca.
