Transfer Your Portfolio to Alpaca Without the Hassle
With our new Portfolio Transfer feature, we’ve automated the entire process through the industry-standard ACATS (Automated Customer Account Transfer Service) system. Instead of manually liquidating and repurchasing your securities, Portfolio Transfer enables a smooth, automated transfer process. Alpaca allows you to easily transfer stocks, ETFs, and cash balances from your old brokerage firm to Alpaca.
This means:
- Transfer Your Investments, Maintain Your Strategy: You may be able* to transfer your existing holdings to your new account without having to sell them, helping you maintain your current investment approach.
- Tax Considerations: Typically transferring assets through the ACATS system is not considered a taxable event. However, you should consult a tax professional to understand any potential tax implications based on your specific situation.
You can initiate the transfer and track its progress directly from your Alpaca dashboard, giving you visibility throughout the entire process.
The Incentives of Transferring to Alpaca
We're offering two special incentives for new and existing clients who use our new Portfolio Transfer feature:
- Transfer Fee Reimbursement**: Transferring your portfolio to Alpaca is free; however, your outside brokerage may charge you a transfer fee. Alpaca will reimburse you $50 for transfers of $10,000 or more per account and outside brokerage.
- Reduced Margin Rates***: If you initiate and complete your first Portfolio Transfer of $30,000 or more in total assets, you’ll be eligible for a reduced margin interest rate (base rate**** + 1.0%) for a period of six months. You’ll also be eligible for Alpaca Elite^, unlocking all the benefits of the $30,000 deposit tier including high interest stock lending^^ and the Elite Smart Router for institutional-grade trading.
