Does Alpaca support Crypto Wallets?

Yes, Alpaca now offers Crypto Wallets as a new convenient way for users to deposit and withdraw crypto assets.

Where can I find Crypto Wallet?

You can access your Crypto Wallet in the sidebar on your Account Dashboard under “Crypto Transfers”.

Why can't I find the Crypto Transfers screen?

For Crypto Wallets, we currently support users in select international jurisdictions and US states, list of supported US states can be found in this FAQ.

What enables a user to be qualified to use crypto wallets?

Any Alpaca user located in a supported state or international jurisdiction with a valid crypto account by signing the crypto agreement is eligible for Crypto Wallets.

What assets and blockchains do you support for crypto deposits and withdrawals?

We currently support Bitcoin (BTCUSD), Ethereum (ETHUSD) and all Ethereum (ERC-20) based tokens for deposits and withdrawals.

What are the fees & minimum amounts for withdrawals associated with Alpaca’s crypto wallets?

When initiating a deposit from an external source to Alpaca, the user will have to cover the deposit fee which covers the underlying network fees, Alpaca does not charge any additional deposit fees.

For withdrawals, Alpaca charges 50bps (0.5%) of the amount withdrawn from the corresponding asset. Additionally, below are the minimum withdrawal amounts allowed as well as gas fee charged:

** Alpaca will deduct the necessary amount to cover network fees upon initiating an external transfer on-chain. While this fee is network dependent, Alpaca charges an approximate 0.002 ETH as a fixed fee deducted from the amount withdrawn.

What will happen if I initiated a withdrawal below the minimum amount?

If a withdrawal with an amount below the limit is initiated, the transfer will fail to process.

How secure are crypto funds with Alpaca?

Alpaca is SOC II certified and leverages segregated secure compute environments for any cryptographic assets. We ultimately store customer crypto assets in wallets secured by Fireblocks’ MPC-CMP architecture. Additionally, Alpaca has also added account protection in the form of MFA enforcement and whitelisting on withdrawals to ensure assets remain safely on the platform. I have deposited crypto assets to Alpaca’s provided address, but I do not see the funds. What's going on?

If you send crypto assets to your Alpaca-provided address, your funds will be safe and will be reflected on the dashboard shortly. Additionally, you will receive an email notification once assets are ready to trade.

We wait several block confirmations before we accept deposit finality on-chain. Our automated system may also flag deposits for AML investigations where they deviate significantly from expectations. In these scenarios we will reach out for confirmation of source of funds which can result in delays beyond business as usual.

If you sent crypto assets to the provided address and more than an hour has elapsed and you have not received any confirmation from Alpaca, please reach out to [email protected].

Can I withdraw my crypto?

Yes, you can. Make sure you whitelist your wallets first.

Why do I have to whitelist addresses for withdrawals?

Alpaca wants to ensure your funds remain safe in your account. In order to protect your funds from hostile account takeovers, we impose a 24-hour period for adding new wallet addresses in which you can withdraw funds.

This is done to give you enough time to react in case someone wants to withdraw your crypto funds externally without your permission. We will send email notifications in advance whenever a new wallet address is associated with your account.

What can I use deposited crypto funds for?

Deposited crypto-assets can only be used for trading. We will be rolling out other ways to use your deposited assets in the near future.

Can I withdraw and send crypto to any address?

Yes, as long as you whitelist the address beforehand and the destination address is cleared by our upstream KYT provider.

Conditional orders may have increased risk as a result of their reliance on trigger processing, market data, and other internal and external systems. Such orders are not sent to the market until specified conditions are met. During that time, issues such as system outages with downstream technologies or third parties may occur. Conditional orders triggering near the market close may fail to execute that day. Furthermore, our executing partner may impose controls on conditional orders to limit erroneous trades triggering downstream orders. Alpaca Securities may not always be made aware of such changes to external controls immediately, which may lead to some conditional orders not being executed. As such, it is important to monitor conditional orders for reasonability. Conditional orders are “Not Held” orders whose execution instructions are on a best efforts basis upon being triggered. Furthermore, conditional orders may be subject to the increased risks of stop orders and market orders outlined above. Given the increased potential risk of using conditional orders, the client agrees that Alpaca Securities cannot be held responsible for losses, damages, or missed opportunity costs associated with market data problems, systems issues, and user error, among other factors. By using conditional orders the client understands and accepts the risks outlined above. Commission-Free trading means that there are no commission charges for Alpaca Securities self-directed individual brokerage accounts that trade U.S. listed securities through an API. Relevant regulatory fees may apply.

Commission free trading is available for Alpaca's retail customers. Alpaca reserves the right to charge additional fees if it is determined that orders flow is non-retail in nature.
